Summer Volunteer Program

At Ritenour Counseling, we believe in the power of lifelong learning. Each summer, we welcome a select group of high school and college students to join our practice and get an inside look at the world of psychotherapy.

This is an unpaid, experiential opportunity designed for curious, motivated students who are considering a future in mental health or a related helping profession.

What You'll Experience

  • Weekly supervision meetings with our clinical team

  • Real-world insight into treatment planning and therapeutic interventions

  • Supervisor-led presentations and guest speaker trainings

  • An independent project focused on education or community outreach

What We're Looking For

  • Basic computer proficiency

  • Availability to meet in person on Tuesdays, 12–2 PM

  • Genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn

  • Comfort engaging with others in a professional setting

  • Some personal familiarity with therapy or mental health treatment

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)

Ritenour Counseling is looking for an enthusiastic, thoughtful clinician who is eager to grow their clinical skills within a supportive private practice setting. This is a wonderful opportunity for a registered AMFT who is passionate about working with individuals, teens, and families — and who is ready to build meaningful therapeutic relationships in the East Bay/Tri-Valley area.

About the Role

As an associate therapist at Ritenour Counseling, you will carry a caseload of individual and family clients, providing counseling that supports emotional growth, stronger relationships, and more fulfilling day-to-day functioning. You will receive direct clinical supervision and work within a practice that values ongoing learning, collaboration, and high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, teen, and family therapy using evidence-based, relational approaches

  • Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation in accordance with BBS requirements

  • Participate in weekly individual or group supervision

  • Engage thoughtfully in treatment planning and ongoing case conceptualization

  • Support outreach efforts and client matching as needed

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution

  • Current registration as an AMFT with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

  • Experience working with children, teens, and/or families, including culturally diverse populations

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with autonomy

  • Genuine curiosity, warmth, and a passion for the therapeutic process
